With the passage of a new continuing resolution (CR) funding the federal government through January 30th, Congress now needs to turn to passage of the remaining appropriations bills for fiscal year 2026 including the Transportation and Housing and Urban Development (THUD) bill.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune said senators would be “off to the races” on a second package of spending measures when the chamber comes back in on Tuesday. Up to five bills are under consideration for inclusion in that package, covering funding for the military and the departments of Education, Commerce, Labor, Health and Human Services, Justice, Transportation, Interior and Housing and Urban Development.
In a November 6 letter, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials urged Congressional leadership to finish work on the fiscal year 2026 Transportation-Housing and Urban Development or THUD appropriations bill “as soon as practicable” in order to provide state departments of transportation with the “funding certainty necessary” to advance critical infrastructure projects nationwide.
The THUD appropriations bill has included congressionally directed spending on specific projects in recent years whereas the continuing resolutions do not.
Stay tuned for further developments!
