Poll Results - Minnesotans Want a Better Transportation System

Statewide survey of Minnesota adults conducted in the fall of 2007.

 

  • 86% of respondents believe that the condition of bridges in Minnesota is a problem.

 

  • 53% of respondents said they would support a five-cent increase in the state’s gas tax to increase the building and maintenance of roads and bridges.

 

  • 54% of respondents said they would support a one-half cent increase in the Twin Cities metro area sales tax for expanding Light Rail in the metro area.

 

  • 64% of respondents said they support having their county charge a wheelage tax of five dollars per year to maintain county roads and bridges.

    • Transportation concerns continue for Minnesota businesses with 30% believing the transportation system is worse than five years ago.

     

    • 74% of businesses say more revenue is needed.

     

    • 53% support a metro-wide sales tax for transit.
