How much does the gas tax cost?

It depends on your gas mileage and how much you drive.

The average driver pays about $6.00 per year for each cent of gas tax, assuming 20 miles per gallon and 12,000 miles per year.

Myth: Gas tax revenue goes into Minnesota's General Fund for use in all sorts
of things beyond highway projects.

Fact: Revenue from the Minnesota gas tax is constitutionally dedicated to the
Highway Trust Fund and must be used only for "highway purposes" as defined
in the State Constitution.
