The Minnesota Transportation Alliance remains the recognized transportation leader among industry, elected officials, advocates and government entities. Our strong reputation for providing accurate, up-to-date information and innovative policy initiatives have made us the organization consulted whenever transportation issues and concerns arise.

Alliance members represent businesses, labor organizations, the transportation industry and local governments. Our members advocate for a safe and effective transportation system, fighting for additional funding for highways, transit systems, waterways, aviation and rail systems.

The Minnesota Transportation Alliance will work with you and for you as we strive to meet the state's transportation needs.

ADVOCACY
The Minnesota Transportation Alliance:

  • Lobbies for increased investments in Minnesota's transportation system
  • Achieves results both in Washington D.C. and in St. Paul working with elected officials, staff and members of government agencies including the Departments of Transportation.
  • Activates a broad-based membership to keep transportation among the top issues on Minnesota's political agenda.
  • Hosts the Washington Fly-In - the most successful event of its kind, offering members meetings with Minnesota's Congressional Delegation and staff.
  • Organizes the Minnesota Drive-In - an event that offers members the opportunity to discuss issues that affect the transportation industry with legislative leadership.

PARTNERSHIPS
The Minnesota Transportation Alliance:

  • Organizes and leads coalitions and corridor groups throughout Minnesota to assist communities in positioning highway and transit projects for programming and funding.
  • Guides coalitions through the funding process to successfully reach their goals.
  • Provides networking events with transportation interests to share ideas and form partnerships.
  • Hosts educational forums and training sessions to help members better understand legislative issues and their impact on the transportation system

  • Keeps you up-to-date on important transportation developments. Whether the action is happening in D.C., St. Paul or another state, we'll make sure you stay informed.
  • Produces in-depth research pieces on a host of transportation-related issues.
    Provides the background and knowledge members and elected officials rely on to make important decisions.
  • Responds to inquiries from the media, providing accurate information and analysis.
    Tracks legislative action at the Capitol. We provide: bill monitoring, committee schedules and reports on committee action throughout the legislative session.
  • Our Legislative Program Makes A Difference

As a Coalition Builder, the Alliance:

  • Actively seeks out organizations involved in transportation for membership and input, creating the largest and broadest umbrella organization for transportation in the state;
  • Coordinates legislative efforts with local units of government and public agencies to develop policies and programs that advance transportation investments such as the Local Bridge Bonding Program;
  • Combines legislative activity with the League of Minnesota Cities, the Association of Metropolitan Municipalities and other associations with a transportation agenda;
  • Maintains a productive working relationship with MnDOT both in St. Paul and around the state;
  • Organizes coalitions and corridor groups throughout Minnesota to promote critical transportation projects.

As a recognized leader in transportation policy, the Alliance:

  • Develops and presents to the Legislature a detailed transportation platform with policy recommendations as well as a comprehensive capital investment program for all transportation modes;
  • Presents to the Legislature a variety of legislative and administrative initiatives in conjunction with government and transportation industry associations that promote increased investments in transportation infrastructure;
  • Provides research, briefing papers and analysis on the needs and status of the state's transportation system;
  • Distributes the most comprehensive, timely and concise legislative reporting service focused on transportation policy and funding.

With our philosophy stressing a variety of programs and strategies to achieve results, the Alliance has successfully lobbied for:

  • A Major Transportation Projects Commission to address significant transportation projects needed in the state;
  • A Transportation Revolving Loan Fund to provide additional flexibility in the use of highway funds to address changing needs;
  • A Local Road Improvement Program to deal with emerging needs on local road systems.

With our leadership at the Capitol, the Alliance has obtained:

  • Additional one-time state funding of over $600 million outside the Highway Trust Fund;
  • On-going funding for the Local Bridge Program in state bonding funds with over $70 million invested to date;
  • Increases in state funding for all modes of transportation including transit, ports, and rail.

  • Schedules of committee action at the legislature dealing with transportation
  • Weekly lists of transportation-related bills introduced at the legislature during the session
